I love people who can articulate ideas very well. I've been a big fan of John Battelle for a decade, He is the co-founder of Wired, Founder of Federated Media and Executive Producer of the Web 2.0 Summit. He’s also the author of an upcoming book, What We Hath Wrought, which gives us a forecast of the interconnected world. In short the book is about, can we handle what we are creating? Thirty or so years from now, will we be questioning ourselves – “Lord, what hath we wrought?” Or will we look upon what we hath wrought, and be pleased? I think the answer lies in exploring where we are, right now, and laying out the implications of our actions today. (And yes, I’m an optimist, which is why I moved the “hath” over one position in the title…)

If A Butterfly Flaps Its Wings In Brazil, Guess What Happens?

I was writing a Social Media report for clients based on "If a butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil" theory and while doing a research i stumbled on this video. The Butterfly Effect, by Andy Andrews. The Butterfly Effect shows how your everyday actions can make a difference for generations to come. Through inspiring stories, shares the secret of a life of permanent purpose, where every decision and action you make in life matters, no only today, but for the future. When you understand that every action matters, every result of our actions immediately improves! A life of permanent purpose will make you a better parent, a better, spouse and a more valuable friend. The Butterfly Effect illustrates the unique power of the individual. You have created as one of a kind...to make a difference. You have the power to change the world. What you do with your life matters today. It matters FOREVER.

As @HannoL puts it, Today more than ever before do we realize that we are part of a vast network, both digitally and naturally, where technology matters but networks far exceed the virtual world. It seems there might be truth in the saying that when a butterfly flaps it’s wings in America, it creates a tropical storm in the Orient, a truly networked society.
The Butterfly Effect theory states that You can create lasting change when you begin small, act where you are, and stay faithful over the long haul. At FlyingCocoon we believe its time to apply The butterfly effect in vast universe of Social Media. Stay Hungry, Stay tuned.

The Best in the world at something?

3:39 AM Posted by Unknown

Do you or your startup wants to be the best in the wold at something? Know this at least! :)
Long time ago my mentor thought me the following simple serinity prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference
In other words knowing when to quit and when to stick to your guns. Especially when you have a major project on your hands and start out with a lot of energy, making huge strides toward to your goal. You’re firing on all cylinders. You’re excited and motivated. Then you hit the wall(dip). That is where this prayer comes handy.
So the qusetion is When to Quit and When to Stick??? According to Seth Godin, while quitting is often a poor snap decision made under stress, under the right circumstances it is a smart choice for turning around a dead-end situation.
Please watch 8min video summery of Seth's Book.

The reason that being the best in the world is worth so much is that only few can do it. Scarcity carries a premium. We fail when we give up too soon, or when we get distracted by tasks that we don't have the guts to quit. Seth says the DIP is the long stretch between beginner’s luck and real accomplishment.

Dreams Evolve - Conan O’Brien’s 2011 Dartmouth College

Presenting to you the social media guy who started tweeting his comedies.

There's lots comedy in the 23-minute speech; Also there's profound message about the freedom that comes from failure. The embedded player will play the last 7 min speeches when you press play. That is the part i want my blog readers to listen.

Whatever you think your dream is now, it will probably change and that's OK.

I quote "There are few things more liberating in this life than having your worst fear realized. It is our failure to become our perceived ideal that ultimately defines us and makes us unique.
But if you accept your misfortune and handle it right, your perceived failure can become a catalyst for profound reinvention. Whether you fear it or not, true disappointment will come but with disappointment comes clarity, conviction and true originality."

Again i quote "Your path at 22 will not necessarily be your path at 32 or 42. One's dream is constantly evolving, rising and falling, changing course. At the age of 47, after 25 years of obsessively pursuing my dream, that dream changed, he said. I thought achieving that goal would define me as successful. But that is not true. No specific job or career goal defines me, and it should not define you."
